Key Responsibilities – Special Education Teacher As a Special Education Teacher, you’ll be part of a student-centered team committed to individualized learning success. You will:
Develop and implement high-quality IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)
Track and report student progress toward special education goals
Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and families
Use differentiated instruction to engage diverse learners
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons
Attend and contribute to IEP meetings, reevaluations, and eligibility determinations
Support paraprofessionals and lead inclusive classroom strategies
Apply your knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and FAPE principles
Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
Assist in student transition planning and promote academic, social, and emotional growth
Requirements – Special Education Teacher
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
Valid Missouri Teaching License with certification in Special Education
Must meet “Highly Qualified” status for core content areas as applicable
Passion for special education, individualized instruction, and student advocacy
