Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a Virtual Teacher for the visually impaired in a Contract Placement position within a School District located in Carrboro, NC.

Salary: $50/hr
Start Date: 2 Weeks from Offer 
Type: Contract (40 Weeks)
Shift/Hours: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide and coordinate specialized instruction for students with visual impairments, ensuring access to appropriate learning materials.

  • Collaborate with school staff, service providers, families, and community partners to address student needs.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies for students with disabilities.

  • Conduct and interpret functional vision and learning assessments to guide instruction.

  • Support school teams with evaluations, IEP goal development, and program implementation.

  • Deliver specialized instruction and services tailored to individual educational needs.

  • Promote and apply research-based practices to improve student learning and independence.

Required Education/Experience and/or Licensure/Certifications
  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or related field.
  • Certification & Licensure:
  • State teaching certification/licensure with an endorsement in Visual Impairments (TVI certification).
  • Additional certification in Orientation & Mobility may be preferred (not always required).
  • Experience:
  • Previous teaching experience with students who have visual impairments (in-person or virtual).
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs and specialized instructional strategies.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, low vision devices, and adapted instructional materials.
  • Ability to conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments.
  • Familiarity with IDEA, ADA, and other special education policies and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff.
  • Comfort with virtual instruction platforms and digital accessibility tools.
  • Valid State Identification
